Determination and preconcentration of Pb by dispersive solid phase extraction
Abstract:
The dispersive solid phase extraction was proposed as a green extraction method for extraction and
preconcentration of Pb from water samples. The dithizone adsorbed on silica was prepared by stirring the
silica gel in the dithizone solution for 40 minutes, then the silica was filtered and dried with nitrogen gas. The
dithizone absorbed silica was used for lead extraction. The optimum conditions for lead extraction were pH
8.5, extraction time of 30 min with the silica adsorbent of 0.10 g. After extraction completed, the Pb-dithizone
complex was eluted with 2 mL of methanol and detected at 472 nm by UV-visible spectrometric technique.
Under the optimum conditions, the linearity of lead in the range of 20-120 ug/L with coefficients of 0.9987
was performed. The limit of detection and limits of quantitation were 4.83 and 16.90 ug/L, respectively. The
relative standard deviation for repeatability and intermediate precision were 6.80 and 8.18%, respectively.
The recovery was in the range of 91.92 - 96.59%. This method was applied for the determination of Pb in
water samples from Chonburi province, Thailand. However, the amounts of Pb found in the water samples
were lower than the quality standard recommended from the Pollution Control Department, Office of the
National Environment Board.
