Abstract:
This qualitative research consists of three objectives namely: 1) To study concept of medicine (Vejjakamma) as in Buddhist Scriptures; 2) To study concept of Thai Traditional Medicine; and 3) To propose a conceptual model of Buddhist Thai Traditional Medicine by integrating Buddhist Medicine with Thai Traditional Medicine. They are the documentary and field studies research by in-depth interviews with Item-Objective Congruence Examiners, and focus group discussions to criticize and approve the model.
The Findings shown that the meaning of medicine or vejjakamma in Buddhist Medicine refers to the health treatment and prevention of disease or to relieve illness until it is well recovered. It relies on the Buddhist Doctrine to the mental treatment and the use of medicine objects to the physical treatment. In Thai Traditional Medicine (TTM) relies on various principles in order to balance the four elements in the body for the treatment of disease which is considered the main cause of the disease. From the importance of medicine in both sciences, it was integrated into A Conceptual Model of Buddhist Thai Traditional Medicine (BTTM). It consists of the concepts and theories of elements to be presented as a model to show the interrelationship of elements between each element, medication and treatment. It is in order to know and understand body, mind, nature, or disease, as well as to balance the elements. It leads to Buddhist Well-being that comprises physical, mental, and wisdom health. It can certainly be further developed in order to achieve its goals.
