Abstract:
The study consisted of the following objectives: 1) to investigate the promotion of participation of moral teaching monks; and 2) to propose the guidelines for promoting the participation of moral teaching monks in developing Pañca-sīla of primary school students in schools, Bueng Na Rang District, Phichit Province. The study applied a qualitative research method. Data were obtained through interviews with 16 key informants and focus group discussions with 7 experts. The obtained data were analyzed by way of content analysis.
From the study, the following results are found:
1. The conditions of moral teaching monks participation in developing Pañca-sīla and Pañca-dhamma of primary school students in schools, Bueng Na Rang District, Phichit Province are as follows: (1) Leader in morality and a role model for good behavior; (2) Trainer who teaches youth to observe the precepts; (3) Motivator who reminds youth to realize the importance of behaving according to Pañca-sīla (the Five Precepts) and Pañca-dhamma (the Five Ennobling Virtues); (4) Teacher who teaches youth to understand the details of morality; and (5) Teacher who encourages students to become more aware of society and to focus on the common good.
2. The guidelines for promoting the participation of moral teaching monks include the following: 1) Encourage the use of morals in daily life, as well as the adherence to those that are good, valuable, and beneficial; 2) Encourage youth to have mental health and moral dread; 3) Promote youth to have skills in working together and unity; 4) Educate youth about the advantages and disadvantages of a broken family; and 5) Promote the value of morality, rules, and laws that are in place to keep society in order.
