Abstract: This study focuses on the three English synonyms: general, common, and typical, emphasizing their meaning, grammatical patterns, noun collocation, and degree of formality. Three hundred concordance lines were used to compare the dictionary (Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary International Student's Edition (10th edition) (OALD)) to the corpus-based data (the Corpus of Contemporary American English) in order to examine the similarities and differences between the synonyms. Despite having the same basic meaning, the study found that these three adjectives are not interchangeable in all situations. They differ in terms of meaning, grammatical patterns, noun collocation, and stylistic information. Additionally, corpora offers linguistic data like grammatical patterns, collocations, stylistic information, etc. that are not present in the dictionaries
