Abstract:
The research on factors that influence peoples decision to vote in a political election aims: 1) to compare peoples decision to vote in an election with classified categories of respondents personal background; and 2) to investigate factors that influence peoples decision to vote in an election, and to identify any factors that influence peoples decision. The sample of 374 voters in Mueang Chonburi District, Second Area, responded to a questionnaire, the research tool for data collection. The statistics used for analyzing data included t-Test, One-way ANOVA, Stepwise Multiple regression analysis, and the statistical significance was determined at .05 level. The findings include the following: 1) people with varied monthly income had different decision to vote in an election, which was verified by the statistical significance at .05 level. In other words, peoples decision to vote varied according to different income; and 2) factors that most influenced voting in an election were donation to temples, temple fairs, fetes, or donation of public property to communities, followed by a campaign for votes to make people impressed by means of backdoor strategies, confidentiality, and networking, which could be expressed in the following equation: Obtaining the vote 1 = 4.072 Constant + .608 Donation - .124 Campaign (backdoor). Based on this equation, it could be understood that the more candidates provided donation to temples, temple fairs, fetes, and donation of public property, the more people participated in voting. On the other hand, the more candidates carried out campaigns for votes to impress people with backdoor strategies, confidentiality, and networking, the less people decided to vote. The result was verified by the statistical significance at .05 level.
