Properties of NR/ENR blends filled with bagasse fiber and silica
Abstract:
In this experiment, swelling and mechanical properties of NR/ENR blends filled with
bagasse fiber and silica were investigated. NR/ENR blends were studied in various ratios;
100:0, 75:25, 50:50 and 25:75. The bagasse fiber used was short fiber, which the amount of
bagasse fiber and silica was kept constant at 10 and 20 phr, respectively. Moreover, the effect
of Si-69 on swelling and mechanical properties of NR/ENR vulcanizates was also studied and
the amount of Si-69 used was 10% w/wsilica. The rubber compounds were mixed on a two-roll
mill and the specimens were shaped at 150 °C using compression molding. It is found that
swelling ratio, tensile strength and %elongation at break of NR/ENR vulcanizates decreased
with increasing ENR content, but hardness, modulus and compression set showed the
opposite trend. Additionally, the improvement of properties of NR/ENR vulcanizates is
observed when Si-69 is added
