Role of local government in sustainable community forest management A case study of Ban Pee, Chiang Kham district, Phayao province
Abstract:
In Thailand, the role of community forests is a critical method for government to conserve the forest through the participation of the local community. Community forests are perceived as valuable assets of the local community. So, it is crucial to study forests in Thailand through the local government and peoples participation to emphasize the existence of environmental preservation. The study aims to explore local organizations' role in forest management participation and the community forest management that the community's members proceed for community resilience-building in Ban Pee community forest, Chiang Kam district, Phayao province. The study uses the qualitative methodology to study and analyze data based on the literature reviews on public policy, resilience, and new public governance for community forest management. Ban Pee community forest represented harmonious livelihoods between people and the forest. Community members have formed a strong volunteer that unites villagers in forest management, forest conservation, and forest fire disaster prevention. The community ensures a sustainable livelihood by mitigating the damage of forest fires and haze pollution, including the fertility of forests in the area. Also, the local government has been active in forest conservation and plays an important role in environmental protection. Therefore, this study's benefit is promoting community forest management of community and local organizations by building resilience in community forests.
