Abstract:
In this research, β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as body-odor absorber and acrylic acid as binder were treated on silk
fabric via textile finishing process for antiodorant property. Isovaleric acid, a major component of body-odor, was used
as source of body-odor. Various finishing methods and conditions were conducted on fabric and finished fabric was tested for various properties, compared to the unfinished fabric. Results indicated that the best two processes for fabric finishing were to treat fabric via one- and two-bath processes using 20 g/L β-CD and 100 g/L acrylic acid as finishing agents with %wet pick up of 70-80%, and then to cure fabric at 130°C for 3 minutes. Finished fabrics provided effective body-odor reduction property while unfinished fabric showed none, and this property remained intact on finished fabrics after 25 and 35 washing cycles for fabrics finished with one- and two-bath processes, respectively. Finished fabric showed a slight decrease in water absorbency and a higher degree of stiffness than the unfinished fabric. However, the stiffness decreased after finished fabric was washed. Strength of finished fabric was comparable to that of unfinished fabric
