Abstract:
This work aimed to study the preparation of dolomite which was impregnated on diatomite for the use as the catalyst in transesterification reaction for biodiesel production. Dolomite provided CaO and MgO after the calcination at high temperature. In addition, diatomite can adequately be used as the support to improve the catalysis of dolomite which was impregnated on diatomite. The catalyst characterizations were performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) , N2 adsorption-desorption measurement and Temperature program desorption (TPD). Furthermore, the effect of calcination temperature and contents of dolomite-impregnated on diatomite was investigated for biodiesel production. The results showed that the calcination temperature of 800 °C and 40% wt. dolomiteimpregnated on diatomite provided the highest %FAME of 92.38 % since this condition offered high amount of active sites which were used to catalyze transesterification reaction for biodiesel production
