The European Union and corporate social responsibility : case study of IUU fishing in southeast Asia
Abstract:
This research is about the study of the European Union and how the CSR regime had become an important part as their decision-making and policy making in both domestic and international ground. Starting from the globalization and several incidents that it brings, people had become more inclusive and the world had become a smaller place. Also, because of the global interwoven economy, the CSR regime had become one of the topics that both public and private sectors cannot ignore. By looking through the lenses of globalization and constructivism, the paper will investigate the core development of the CSR policy in the European Union as well as its tools and mechanisms. For further investigation, this paper will be using case studies of EU policy to fight against IUU fishing in 5 different countries in Southeast Asia including Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Indonesia in order to elaborate and for us to have a better idea of how the EU is terminating its CSR policy outside of its domestic ground. Although EU policy to fight against IUU fishing is quite similar in the region, but when it actually plays out, different countries in the same region are being effected in different ways. Also, they have different responses to EU policy, some are more effective than others, which is due to several factors that will be mentioned in this research. By the end of this research we can get more overall understanding of the CSR regime of how it had in this past decade became one of the most influential and discussed topic globally in from both the public and private sectors. Hopefully the information from this research can be used in terms of CSR incorporate policy development in the future
