Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to examine effects of a Health Literacy Promoting Program for patients with type 2 diabetes who cannot control glucose levels. This research was a quasi-experimental research with two group pretest-posttest design on type 2 diabetes patients who cannot control blood sugar levels in Mae Puem Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phayao Province, with 26 experimental and control groups. We designed a health literacy development program for type 2 diabetes patients using health literacy principles, conducting health education activities for the experimental group 6 times 8 weeks and then assessing health literacy, health behavior and blood sugar levels ( FBS) . Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency distribution, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The experimental group and control group were compared before and after the program with Paired t-test and Independent t-test. The results showed that, at post-test, patients in the experimental group had higher mean scores of heath literacy, health behavior, and FBS than the comparative group (p<0.05). Therefore, this program can be applied to adjust the behavior of diabetic patients to manage their behaviors appropriately in the future.
