Abstract:
Slash-and-burn agriculture was popularly used as a sustainable farming practice, especially in developing countries to burn forests and develop new agricultural lands [5]. However, while the farming scale was small, there were no major problems, but as the focus on bio-energy production from bio-resources increased due to environmental problems, the rapid and large-scale deforestation began to occur. In the northern Thailand the haze issue began to be closed up more seriously since around 2007. The main issue was the influence on the public health and the tourism which is one of the major business industries in Chiang Mai province mainly caused by forest burning. It has been getting worse year by year especially in recent one decade. It has been generally said that the problem is caused by forest burning by mushroom farmers or sugarcane farmers prior to sugarcane harvest, We finally found some official numerical data reported recently to identify and confirm the main cause of the haze problem. In this paper the real main cause of haze issue is reported and discussed including the proposal toward the future from the higher potential viewpoint of bio-resources production & utilization.
