Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the health literacy level of nursing students in
Boromarajonani Nursing College, Surat Thani Province. The study consisted of 273 participants and
the questionnaire used for data collection was divided into 2 parts. The first part was a questionnaire
consisting of personal information. The second part was self-assessment on health literacy and the
classification of health literacy which contained functional health level, interactive level, critical
health level and media literacy level. These instruments were tested for content validity and reliability
with an alpha coefficient of 0.96, 0.84, 0.89, 0.92 and 0.95, respectively. The data were analyzed
using descriptive statistics.
The results found that the health literacy of the students in Boromarajonani College of
Nursing, Surat Thani was at a high level. (Mean = 4.22, S.D. = 0.53). When each aspects of health
literacy were considered, functional health level, interactive level, critical health level and media
literacy level were all at the same high level. Therefore, it was suggested that the various fields of
health literacy such as information technology literacy and Health Innovation. Consequently, this
could help the development of student nurses knowledge regarding the different categories of health
literacy so that they could take care of ones health and share this to other people.
