A Study of the Chinese American women in The Joy Luck Club
Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to study the cross-cultural conflicts and generation gaps of the Chinese-American women in The Joy Luck Club. The study focuses mainly on eight main female characters in the novel, aiming to analyze how they react to the cultural conflicts and changes, how they perceive their identity, and how they integrate themselves into the American society. In every case, Amy Tan emphasizes the cultural conflicts and generation gaps. The outcomes show that every culture has its own good points and to reduce the gaps between each other, we have to share and accept each other's ideas.
