Abstract:
The study was aimed at analyzing " The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," a masterpiece of Mark Twain ( Samuel Clemens ), an American writer in the 19th century, with focus on factors underlying freedom search as reflected through the main characters' characteristics and reactions. The results of the study reveal that two main factors underlying the main characters' search for freedom include the environment and their personality. Each individual lives under an environment that differs from others'. Since human beings naturally disfavor reinforced conditions, they are likely to seek ways to gain freedom. An individual's personality also affects his own way of living, inspiring him to pursue his own way of freedom search. It is also implied in the story that freedom is an essential part of a person's life and that all human beings naturally seek freedom to live happily in the society.
