Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine the professional experiences of
English teachers who have a Global Englishes orientation. Narrative inquiry was used
and guided by the epistemology. I employed photo-elicitation interview and
classroom observation to collect the data. A guided questionnaire was used to select
the participants of the study. Teachers who reported practicing the principles of
teaching Global Englishes higher than 50% and were willing to participate in the
study were selected as the participants. All data was analyzed by the thematic
analysis method.
The data revealed three main themes and one emergent theme. The three
themes are as follows: using Thai English as a medium language of instruction,
exposing students to the diversity of English, and teaching communication strategies.
The one emergent theme was a lifelong learning teacher identity. Recommendations
for future research are also provided.
