Abstract:
The objectives of this research were 1) to develop a causal relationship model of life skills among teacher students, 2) to develop and to verify the learning and teaching model for enhancing life skills among teacher students in Suan Dusit University, Thailand. The sample selected by the simple random sampling method consisted of 900 teacher students in the bachelors degree in Education in Suan Dusit University in academic year 2018. The learning and teaching model was verified by three experts. The research instrument in this study consisted of an 87-item self-administered questionnaire and a 16-item evaluation form for verifying the learning and teaching model constructed based on the standard of evaluation. Data was analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, a confirmatory factor analysis, Pearson correlation, and a structural equation model.
The finding based on the structural equation model of life skills revealed that the self-concept, locus of control, social support, democratic parenting, interpersonal relationship among teacher students, and teacher personality all had a direct and positive effect on life skills whereas the accumulative grade point avearge indirectly and positively affected life skills via self-concept, locus of control, social support, democratic parenting, and interpersonal relationship among teacher students. In addition, the finding showed that the casual relationship model fitted with the empirical data as shown in the fitted indices: χ2 = 493.42, df = 121, χ2/ df = 4.08, p = .000, CFI = 0.99, GFI = 0.96, RMSEA = 0.059.
The finding found that the learning and teaching model for enhancing life skills among teacher students consisted of three activities: 1) walking to success, 2) happiness inside and outside home (happiness anywhere), and 3) teachers in my heart. Each activity consisted of four steps: 1) introduction, 2) teaching, 3) summary, and 4) evaluation. Their content related to self-concept, locus of control, social support, democratic parenting, interpersonal relationship, and teacher personality. The finding on verifying the learning and teaching model by three experts revealed that the properties/ standards of model in terms of utility, feasibility, propriety, accuracy were achieved
