Administrator factors affecting effectiveness of intensive English program and student achievement

Abstract: The main research question was “what are the administration factors affecting IEP program effectiveness and student achievement?” There were two research objectives; 1) to study the administration factors affecting effectiveness of IEP program using a case study of Siriwitthaya School, Samutprakran Province and 2) to promote the relationship between the factors affecting the effectiveness of IEP program and student achievement. To accomplish this research, a quantitative survey of teachers and administrators (n = 20) and students (n = 360) at Siriwitthaya School was employed. The teacher and administrator survey collected data about three clusters of administration, teaching, and school environment factors that have been shown to influence student achievement, including both academic and non-academic achievement. The parent survey collected data about student academic and nonacademic achievement. Results were then analyzed using multiple regression. The results indicated that all school administration factors, all environment factors, two teacher characteristics (strong academic and pedagogy, and belief all student can learn) and one teaching strategy (classroom management) have a significant positive effect on student academic achievement. On the other hand, all school administration factors, three environment factors (curriculum in school, safe and orderly environment and collegiality and professionalism in school), two teacher characteristics (strong academic and pedagogy, and ethics and morality) and one teaching strategy (classroom management) have a significant positive effect on student non-academic achievement. Based on the findings, there are also some implications for academic knowledge. These novel findings include the high effects of teacher ethics and morality and collegiality and professionalism in the school on student academic and non-academic achievement outcomes
