Pharmacy student leadership and factors affecting leadership development : a case study of pharmacy schools in the central region of Thailand

Abstract: The objectives of this analytical and cross-sectional study was to study the level of the “Seven-star pharmacist” and “Leadership” in sixth year pharmacy students and influencing factors, and to review current pharmacy curricula among 4 public pharmacy schools in the central region of Thailand. There were 526 questionnaires distributed and 390 questionnaires were returned which meant 74.14% response. Four Deputy Deans for Academic Affairs and Deputy Deans for Student Affairs were interviewed. Descriptive statistics, independent T-test, One-way ANOVA, Multiple Regression Analysis and data extraction were performed to analyze data. All sixth year pharmacy students among 4 pharmacy schools had average score both in the “Seven-star pharmacist” and “Leadership” as high level. “Ready to lead”, attitudes toward leadership, perceptions toward leadership and formal trainings are predictors of the “Seven-star pharmacist” level in sixth year pharmacy students. On the other hand, gender, attitudes toward leadership and perceptions toward leadership are predictors of “Leadership” level. At the moment, official leadership courses are not available in any pharmacy school.

Abstract: งานศึกษาชิ้นนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาระดับความเป็นเภสัชกรเจ็ดดาวและภาวะผู้นำในนักศึกษาคณะเภสัชศาสตร์ชั้นปีที่ 6 และปัจจัยที่ส่งผล รวมถึงศึกษาหลักสูตรของคณะเภสัชศาสตร์ 4 สถาบันในภาคกลางของประเทศไทย จากตัวอย่างทั้งหมด 526 ราย มีผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามจานวน 390 ราย คิดเป็นร้อยละ 74.14 รองคณบดีฝ่ายวิชาการและรองคณบดีฝ่ายกิจการนิสิต 4 ท่านให้ข้อมูลผ่านกระบวนการสัมภาษณ์ สถิติเชิงพรรณนา สถิติทดสอบประเภทต่าง ๆ การวิเคราะห์การถดถอยชนิดพหุคูณและเทคนิคการสกัดข้อมูลถูกนำมาใช้เพื่อวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ผลการศึกษาพบว่าคะแนนเฉลี่ยของนักศึกษาทั้ง 4 สถาบันอยู่ในระดับสูงทั้งด้าน เภสัชกรเจ็ดดาวและภาวะผู้นำ ปัจจัยที่สามารถใช้ทำนายระดับความเป็นเภสัชกรเจ็ดดาว ได้แก่ ความพร้อมที่จะนำ ทัศนคติต่อภาวะผู้นำ การรับรู้ต่อภาวะผู้นำ และรายวิชาต่าง ๆ ที่ปรากฏในหลักสูตร ในขณะที่เพศ ทัศนคติต่อภาวะผู้นำ และการรับรู้ต่อภาวะผู้นำ สามารถใช้ทำนายระดับภาวะผู้นำในตัวนักศึกษาคณะเภสัชศาสตร์ชั้นปีที่ 6 ได้ ในปัจจุบันยังไม่ปรากฏรายวิชาที่มีการเรียนการสอนภาวะทักษะผู้นำอย่างเป็นทางการ
