Abstract:
This research was a cross - sectional study aimed to examine prevalence, correlated factors and predictive factors of intimate partner violence (IPV) victims and health problems among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Bangkok, Thailand. The samples were 382 MSM greater than or equal to 18 years of age, resident of the Bangkok metropolitan recruited by snowball sampling technique. The data were collected in 8 weeks, by a set of self - administered questionnaires, and they were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi - square, Odds ratio and Binary Logistic Regression Analysis. Overall, the participants reported emotional/ verbal abuse 77.5%, physical abuse 58.1% and sexual abuse 57.3%. The study also found stress and anxiety (45.5%) and STDs (34.8%) among the participants due to violence. The factors correlated to IPV victims with significant statistically (p-value<0.05) as age (OR=3.00, 95%CI 1.43-6.29), education (OR=1.92, 95%CI 1.12-3.30), incomes (OR=2.52, 95%CI 1.46- 4.37) and neglectful parenting style (OR=2.14, 95%CI 1.23-3.72). In addition binary logistic regression statistics revealed that lower age, positive attitude toward IPV, lower authoritative parenting style and perception of homophobic discrimination can predict IPV among MSM victims. Recommendation from the results of the study may be used a basis for policy advocacy and create the programs for preventing violence against homosexual and should be support authoritative parenting and good attitude in family level and anti - homophobic discrimination in community and society level in the future.
