Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate Thai teachers preferences regarding instructional media for teaching English in secondary schools. The study was conducted with 81 teachers in six extra-large schools monitored by SEAO 8. A survey questionnaire with multiple-choices questions, gap filling and rating scales was used for data collection. The SPSS program was used to analyze the statistical data and percentage, means, and standard deviation to report the findings. The results of the study indicated that Thai teachers often applied many types of instructional media, namely, audio, visual and audio-visual in teaching English. Power Point was applied the most ((X) ̅= 4.33, S.D = 0.8), followed by whiteboards, course books, and pictures or photos. Regarding the purposes of the instructional media application for teaching English, the findings showed that Thai teachers agreed with all purposes mentioned in the questionnaire. The top five purposes were to promote students to work in team ((X) ̅= 4.55), to present accurate contents (((X) ̅= 4.46), to create real- life situations, to gain more attention from students, and to make the students enjoy the calss ((X) ̅= 4.38 in all three aspects)
