Abstract:
Due to the geometry of a shallow spherical shell of constant thickness, it is appropriate to assume that the angle between the edge of the spherical shell and the axis is small and the value of tan is approximately equal to in radians. On the substitution of for tan, the governing differential equation for the spherical shell of constant thickness under symmetrical load takes the form of a bessel differential equation and its solution is in the form of Schleicher constants or Bessel Kelvin functions. The results obtained by the present approach are the good agreement with those obtained by the exact solution, Hetenyi, and Geckeler solutions.
