Abstract:
For the research on the topic of the Artistic Wisdom of Thai-Mon Community for the
Designing of Learning Media, the researcher conducted by literature studyon-field studyand in-depth
interview. The objectives of this research aimed to 1) study the artistic wisdom of Mon community 2)
analyze Mon artistic identity in order to design the learning media 3) evaluate the knowledge and
understanding concerning Mon artistic wisdom of the sample group. The research findings revealed that
Mon arts firmly cohere to 3important things: Buddhism, remembrance of Mon ancestors and ancestor
worship. Mon arts can be categorized into two main groups:1) tangible art and culture: permanent
architecture,such as Mon pagodas, swan pillar. temporary architecture, such as traditional monks
funeral pyre. and handicraft;such as Mons confine making , breast cloth embroidery 2) intangible art
and culture: Mon language, tale, myth, rite, life tradition, knowledge and skills of Mon craftsman. All of
these arts were claimed to be cultural capital, which can be commercialized to the production of
cultural souvenirs, establishment of tourist attractions and learning center of Mon art and culture, etc.
The researcher applied the results from study of Mon arts identity regarding patterns of
painting and colors of Mons costume to design the learning mediatraditional Mon breast cloth
embroidery kit and centipede flag demonstration kit, which aimed to express Mon identity and esthetic,
Mon artistic wisdom inheritance, and encouragement of easy self-learning media.
Evaluation on students understanding of Mons artistic wisdom on 20 Mathayomsuksa 1
(Grade 7) students of Wat Jed Riew School, Samut Sakorn Province by conducting pretest-posttest
method on the traditional Mon breast cloth and centipede flag, the result revealed that the score of
posttest is statistically significantly higher than that of pretest at the level of 0.05. In terms of
satisfaction of the sample group towards the learning media, the averages derived from the evaluation
are resulted as follows: 1) content aspect4.052) design aspect 4.193) learning aspect 4.18. All of the
values fall within the good level, which means the learning media work appropriately to encourage the
learning of users.
