Dynamical analysis of the effect of obesity and virotheraphy on tumor growth models with time delay
Abstract:
Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly eight million deaths per year. There are many common causes of cancers, such as, smoking
and tobacco, diet and physical activity, sun and other types of radiation, viruses
and other infections. In this thesis, we aim to study two types of tumor growth
models, namely the effects of obesity on the development of cancers and the effects
of virotherapy on the control of cancers.
For the first problem, the obesity and cancer model has been analyzed. We
find all equilibria of the model. We also investigate the conditions for the existence
of positive equilibria for the models with discussion of the biological meanings of
the conditions. Next, the local and global stability of the positive equilibrium
is determined by the linearization and Lyapunov methods. Moreover, the model
with a time-delay is also exhibited for the existence of a Hopf bifurcation.
For the second problem, the tumor growth and virotheraphy treatment has
been analyzed. We determine the conditions for the existence of the equilibria
and analyze for the local stability. We then study the conditions for the existence
of a Hopf bifurcation in the model with a time-delay. The behaviour of the virotheraphy and cancer model are illustrated with well-known growth functions such
as the logistic, the Gompertz and the von Bertalanffy functions.
