Abstract:
This research aimed to study the suitable temperature and time for drying banana leaves, the optimum temperature and time for laminating dried banana leaves. Create the womans handbag prototype and consumers satisfaction toward womens handbags developed from dried banana leaves coated with laminated film.
In drying the banana leaves, the following two factors were included: the temperature (100, 120, 140, 160 and 180 degrees Celsius), and the time (1 and 3 minutes). In laminating dried leaves, the following two factors were included: the temperature (80, 90 and 100 degrees Celsius), and the number of coating cycles (2, 4, 6 and 8 cycles per minute). Then, the prototypes of women's handbags were developed by experts in handbag production and distribution, and consumers satisfaction was finally carried out.
It was found that the suitable temperature and time for drying banana leaves were at 120 degrees Celsius with the rolling time of 3 minutes. The optimum temperature for coating dried banana leaves with laminated film was at 90 degrees Celsius while the number of rolling cycles was 4 times per minute, resulting in the tensile strength of 151.40 Newton and compressive strength of 33.77 Newton. Concerning the consumers satisfaction toward the developed women handbags. Type 3 was found to be the most satisfactory with 39.17% because of their shape, size, modern design, and convenience in use.
