Development of public-city bus assessment based on pedestrian injury criterion in Thailand
Abstract:
Collision between pedestrian and city bus is one of severe casualties in Thailand. This research aims to develop assessment program and evaluate the front end of public city-bus based on the pedestrian injury and mechanism in Thailand. To achieve this research, five proposed research works are composed of statistic records from insurance company, accidental reconstruction between bus and pedestrian using numerical simulation, implementation of test rigs for human forms, the investigation of material responses for front-end parts of buses and development of bus assessment in Thailand. The experimental and simulated results reveal that headform speed should be emitted at 30 km/hr with 30 degree from the horizontal line. For the windshield glass geometry, the 10 mm thickness of laminated glass with PVB 0.38 mm should be recommended by means of the minimum deceleration and without penetrated condition under less head injury criteria. Based on the statistically injury records of pedestrian, this research just provides the city-bus assessment based on the headform testing information. However, the chest and leg zone testing information are proposed in future work to fulfill the city-bus assessment.
