THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL BASED ON HIS MAJESTYS FOOTSTEP WISELY TO ENHANCE ENGLISH READING COMPREHENSION AND ACTIVE LEARNING FOR UPPER SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to (1) study on the teachers teaching management to enhance English reading comprehension ability, active learning, the level of English reading comprehension ability, and the level of active learning of upper secondary school students. (2) create and develop an instructional model based on His Majestys Footstep Wiselytoenhance English reading comprehension ability, and active learning of upper secondary school students. This research was divided into two phases :the first phase was concerned with the studying of the teachers teaching management toenhance English reading comprehension ability, active learning, the level of English reading comprehension ability, andthe level of active learning of upper secondary school students. The population and samples were 205 upper level teachers and 382 upper level students of Secondary School under the Office of Educational Service Region 13. The samples were obtained by the stratified random sampling. The research instruments were a questionnaire on the teachers teaching management toenhance the English reading comprehension ability, and active learning of upper secondary school students with a reliability of 0.94, and a questionnaire on the level of English reading comprehension and active learning of upper secondary school students with a reliability of 0.97. The data were analyzed by average scores and standard deviation. The second phase was concerned with the creating and developing of an instructional model based on His Majestys Footstep Wisely to enhance English reading comprehension ability, and active learning of upper secondary school students. The researcher studied, analyzed and synthesized the documents, concepts, theories and related researches for creating the instructional model. The instructional model was evaluated by the 5 experts. The research instrument was the evaluation of an instructional model based on His Majestys Footstep Wisely with a reliability of 0.84. The data were analyzed by average scores, and standard deviation. The research findings were as follows: (1) The teachers teaching management to enhance English reading comprehension ability and active Learning was at a high level. The level of English reading comprehension ability of the students was at a medium level and The level of active Learning ability of the students was at a high level. (2) An instructional model based on His Majestys Footstep Wisely to enhance English reading comprehension ability, and active learning of upper secondary school students consists of principles, objectives, contents, steps, and assessment. The step of teaching of the instructional model based on His Majestys Footstep Wisely consists of seven steps : 1) Self-Awareness : being aware of reading 2) Investigation : searching for new vocabulary 3) Construction : summarizing the information from reading 4) Information Transfer: transferring the information from reading 5) Application : using the information from reading 6) Reflection : presenting the information that they have learnt and 7) Evaluation : Evaluating their ability in English reading comprehension, and active learning. The result of the evaluation of instructional model was at the most appropriate level that means the instructional model based on His Majestys Footstep Wisely will be able to use for enhancing English reading comprehension ability, and active Learning for upper secondary school students.
