Abstract:
The purposes of this qualitative research were to 1) study Uthai Kaewlaead of transmission process in Ranard-Ek performance of Uthai Kaewlaead (National Artist) and 2) produce a manual teaching fundamental techniques for Ranard-Ek performance based on Uthai Kaewlaead instructions. Result showed that. 1. Uthai Kaewlaead was taught how to play Ranard-Ek by Luang Pradit Pairoh (Sorn Sinlapabanleng) until Uthai mastered the theory, the performance and the knowledge transfer. Most of Uthais students had had fundamental knowledge about Ranard-Ek before studying with him. Uthaitrasmission process involved 3 steps. Firstly, his teaching varied according to student ability and preference. Secondly, his teaching was based on that of Luang Pradit Pairoh (Sorn Sinlapabanleng) including the sitting position, the way to hold the sticks, the players poses and the variation of performances to suit the songs. Thirdly, the teaching focuses on moral practices in daily living. 2. The manual comprises guidelines of how to use this manual, essence of how to teach other to play Ranard-Ek and of how to practice it, assessment and references.
