The Development Of Constructivist E-Learning Model Using the Instructional Design
Abstract:
This research focuses on the study of an e-learning model based on the constructivist
learning theory. By using the instructional design method, this research is divided into
five phases; analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. In the
analysis phase, the characteristics of constructivist learning theory and constructivist
learning environment are analyzed. In the design phase, this research proposes the
constructivist e-learning environment (CEE) model. The CEE model is developed based
on the basic ideas of constructivist learning theory and the good characteristics of the
constructivist e-leaming environment. Consequently, the CEE model is composed of
three components which are collaboration, exploration, and construction. The study of
how students expect their learning outcomes is also conducted in the design phase. The
statistical method is used to analyze the results. The study shows that students have a
high expectation on each CEE component to improve their learning outcomes. In the
development phase, the constructivist e-learning system (CES) is developed. The CES
is employed and used in the actual learning environment in the implementation phase.
The experimental research is designed in this phase. In the evaluation phase, the
statistical results show that students who study by using the CES have better learning
outcomes than students who study under the traditional classroom environment.
