The Design and Development of a Face Tracking System
Abstract:
This work presents a real time system for detection and tracking of facial features in video sequences.
Such system may be used in visual communication applications, such as human-machine interaction,
biometrics authentication, and surveillance. We used an explicitly defined skin region with RGB color
space, HIS, HSV, and HSL (Value, Lightness) model to segment face-candidate regions in the video
sequences. The output regions of the segmentation module were then verified by means of facial feature
detections. The facial feature were located by relative geometrical positions of eyes (eyes contour),
nose (nose contour) and mouth (mouth contour). Using the facial feature allows the face regions to be
tracked correctly in real time. Our system emphasizes the tracking of frontal faces, which can be
utilized in applications, such as, virtual classroom identity authentication.
