Abstract:
Resilience in Schizophrenia caregiver in associated with a variety of protective factors.
This descriptive correlational research aimed to examine the relationship between optimism,
attitude toward Schizophrenia patients, the ability of schizophrenia care, social support and
resilience in schizophrenia caregiver.Participants were 97 schizophrenia caregiver who live in
Nonthaburi Province. They were recruited by sample random sampling. Data has been obtained
from May to July 2016. Research instrument were interviewed questionnaires including
1) personal information, 2) optimism, 3) attitude toward schizophrenia patients, 4) the ability of
schizophrenia care, 5) social support and 6) resilience. The Cronbachs alpha coefficients of
these questionnaires were 0.89, 0.81, 0.94, 0.87, and 0.89. Data was analyzed using descriptive
statistics and Pearson's Product Moment Correlation coefficient.
Results revealed that the resilience of caregiver was at normal level (x= 62.53,
SD = 10.85). Optimism, attitude toward schizophrenia patient, the ability of schizophrenia care,
social support had significantly positive correlation with resilience (r= .694, p<.001, r= .328,
P <.05, r= .414, p<.001, r= .433, p<.001 respectively).
The finding demonstrated the protective factors related to resilience in schizophrenia
caregivers. Health care providers would support caregiver'sprotective factors to promote
resilience in order to alleviate stress, tolerate negative emotion, retaining morale, and dealing with
problems and obstacle.
