Abstract:
The experimental research aimed to explore the effects of cooperative learning and team game tournament technique (TGT) for English reading activity of third year cadets in Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School, Nakhon Nayok and study satisfaction of third year cadets with the technique used in the classroom activity. The populations were 606 third year class third year cadets (18 classes). The subjects of this study, obtained by purposive sampling technique, were 33 cadets of one class), the largest mixed English ability class enrolled in Mathematics course, second semester of the 2015 academic year. The experiment lasted for six weeks. The instruments used in this study were 1) lesson plans on teaching Mathematics on absolute value, integration and normal distribution curve written in English; 2) the pret and post proficiency tests; and 3) a set of questionnaire for investigating the third year cadets opinions toward the activity developed in this study. A paired-sample t-test was used to investigate the differences between the mean scores resulted from the pre and post proficiency tests. The qualitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and shown in mean (𝐱̅), standard deviation (S.D.), and percentage. The findings of the study revealed that there was a significant difference in students mean scores on English ability after the students participation in the cooperative game activity (𝐱̅ = 5.45) higher than before the activity (𝐱̅ = 4.33) at the significant level of 0.05; and the cadets opinions toward the TGT activity for the content, time and appropriateness of the teaching were positive (𝐱̅ = 4.17, S.D. = 0.81).
