Abstract:
This study aimed to study the effects of vanadium on grain refinement by adding Aluminium-Titanium-Boron in Aluminium Alloys Casting
Grade A356. The experiments were conducted by adding Al-10 percent V by weight of Vanadium 0.015 percent and 0.0219 percent as well as adding
Master Alloys, Al-5 percent Ti-1 percent B at Titanium 0.0086 percent and 0.01399 percent and Boron 0.0005 percent and 0.0011 percent. The Aluminium
Alloy Casting Grade A356 was molten molded in graphite mold and stainless steel mold to evaluate grain refinement and its and permanent mold to test its
mechanical properties after adding Vanadium 0.0219 percent and 0.01399 percent and 0.0011 percent It was found that alloys and master alloys added could
decrease the grain size better than casting without adding Alloys and master alloys. Aluminium-Vanadium added could refine the grain of the work piece.
In addition, when adding Aluminium-Vanadium alloys in Aluminium-Titanium-Boron, the grain size was also finer. It was also found that the more alloys and
master alloys added, the finer the grain size. Besides, work piece cast in graphite mold is finer than one cast in stainless steel mold, and grain refinement also
increases mechanical properties of the work piece.
