Abstract:
Agriculture shapes the German landscape. It provides food and energy. Therefore, agriculture has a big influence on the society. Thus, agricultural research is important for sustainable agricultural development and growth. The objective of the study is to analyse the funding of agricultural research in Germany. It is checked if current research is useful to solve problems and answer questions about the agricultural sector. Data have been collected from literature review, FISA database, Wissenschaftsstatistik and a qualitative survey. The thesis presents: funding sources, research institutes, capacities and topics of research and development, especially in animal production. It is concluded that issues of public interest in animal production are also in the focus of research projects. But there is a lack in coordination and no overall concept between different funding agencies.
