Technique library as a facilitating device for designers' idea sharing
Abstract:
The behaviors of participants in group meetings show that Thai designers do not participate well in the meeting due to their reserved nature such as being afraid or shy to discuss in groups. This is why this project is about designing a product that will be used to assist team meeting especially on the brainstorming process by using existing techniques of creativity sudh as Mind mapping, Six thinking hats, and others. The objective of this project is to make the library of techniques accessible and easy for designers to use. This is to create an effectiveness of team working and to help users performing their idea properly. It is also to fulfill the weaknesses and problems of existing techniques. The device is comprised of three main parts: Moderator device, Facilitating pens, and the Tablet. First, moderator device is the main tool used to control the working process of the device and to control the facilitating pen as well. Second, facilitation pens are used to prompt the users and to receive commands from the moderator device. Third, the tablet provides a space for writing and discussing. All of the parts were linked together using the softwere that contains rules of using each technique in terms of working process and time keeping. The project was tested by using softwere and hardwere prototyping to a group of 13 designers. The result shows that the product can reduce problems of using creative thinking techniques and Thai nature of being too reserved. The result from the testing also suggests that team members could utilize the creative thinking techniques more effectively using this device. Moreover, the testing groups could run the process of each technique quicker and easier. In the future, there is a potential that the product will be able to be used for both educational and commercial purposes for team meeting
