Preparation and characterization of CaCu3Ti4O12 materials by sol-gel process
Abstract:
CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) powders were prepared by sol-gel process using acetic acid as a
solvent and also as cross-linking agent by varying the mole ratio of metal and acetic acid
(1:40, 1:50 and 1:60) and calcining temperature (600900 ºC) for 3 h. The dried gels were
characterized by TG-DTA and FT-IR techniques. The sintered samples were characterized by
FT-IR, XRD, SEM techniques and impedance analyzer for dielectric properties measurement.
All samples showed CCTO perovskite structure with small amounts of TiO2 and CuO phases.
From optimizing conditions for the preparation process, acetic acid with the mole ratio of
1:40 was preferably used as a solvent and a cross-linking agent for preparing CCTO. For the
sintered pellet samples calcined at different temperatures, all samples showed the high
dielectric constant (εr) ∼103104 and very low loss tangent (tanδ) ∼0.030.05 at 1 kHz. The
lowest tanδ (0.03) was found in the CCTO calcined at 800 ºC and its εr at 1 kHz was
8.24×103.
