Chemical constituents from the leaves of stelechocarpus cauliflorus and their biological activities
Abstract:
Investigation of chemical constituents of the EtOAc extract from the leaves of Stelechocarpus cauliflorus (Annonaceae) led to the isolated of the four new neolignans: (+)-machilusol C (SL3), (+)-machilusol D (SL4), (+)-curcasinlignan C (SL8) and (-)-(7S,8S)-4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-8',9'-dinor-4',7-epoxy-8,3'-neolignan-7'-al (SL9) together with eleven known compounds: (+)-licarin A (SL1),
(+)-acuminatin (SL2), (-)-(7S,8S,7'E)-3,4-dimethoxy-4',7-epoxy-8,3'-neolignan-7'-ene (SL5), (-)-parakmerin A (SL6), (+)-kadsurenin M (SL7), spathulenol (SL10), phytol (SL11), β-sitosterol (SL12), stigmasterol (SL13), stigmast-4-en-3-one (SL14), and stigmasta-4,22-dien-3-one (SL15). The structure of the compounds were determined by spectroscopic analysis, 1D and 2D NMR techniques (1H, 13C, COSY, HMQC and HMBC) and comparison with those reported in the literature. The DPPH free radical scavenging properties of the some isolated compounds and crude extract were evaluated. The crude EtOAc extracts and compounds SL6-SL9 showed weak to moderate DPPH free radical scavenging activities, compared to the reference standard, Trolox.
