Abstract:
Litsea glutinosa is an herb that can be used in cosmetics, shampoo and drugs. This research aimed to study antioxidant activity, total phenolic and tannin contents from fresh and dry Litsea glutinosa leave extracts. Solvents used were 95 percent ethanol and water for maceration. The crude extracts were obtained by evaporating the extract solutions to dryness by vacuum rotary evaporator. The 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging activities were ranged from 0.21-34.19 ppm and the highest free radical scavenging activity was from fresh leave crude extract by water. Total phenolic and tannin contents were ranged from 0.9-9.3 mg gallic acid equivalent per g crude extract and 1.7-12.4 mg tannic acid equivalent per g crude extract, respectively. Fresh leave crude extract by water gave the highest total phenolic and tannin contents
