Abstract:
In this study, a flood warning system was developed for Chumphon Municipality to conform with the existing meteorological and hydrologicaldatabase in the watershed area. The flood warning system was made up of two subsystems, namely: the flood early warning system and the real-time flood warning system. The flood early warning system was based on the Antecedent Pecipitation Index (API) method and the Coaxial-Correlation graphical method. For real-time flood warning, the MIKE 11 model was used to compute flows and water levels resulted from actual storms and prevailing catchment conditions. The MIKE 11 model was calibrated using the most severe flood event in August, 1997. The performance of the flood warning system was tested against the flood events occurring in year 1998 and year 2000, from which satisfactory accurate results were obtained. To make the flood warning system more complete, the flood innudated maps at various flood levels were prepared.
