Learning Motivation on English Learning and Self-Perception of English Communication: A Case Study of the First Year Students of the Faculty of Education Institute of Physical Education, Lampang
Abstract:
The purposes of this independent study aimed 1) to study the motivation on English language learning and self-perception on English for communication of the first year undergraduate students majoring in Physical Education Program at the Faculty of Education, Institute of Physical Education, Lampang 2) to study the correlation between English learning and self-perception on English communication. The sample included 102 first year undergraduate student majoring in Physical Education Program, Faculty Education, Institute of Physical Education, Lampang. Questionnaire and indepthinterview forms constructed by the researcher were the tool for data collection. Percentage, mean (X ), standard deviation were used to analyze the data and then the results were presented with the narrative techniques. The findings of the study revealed that the number of male informants with 76.29 % was mostly found. In addition to this study, their motivation on English language learning, with its mean of 2.83, was rated at a moderate level; otherwise, their self-perception on English for communication, with its mean of 2.29. was rated at a lower level. To sum up, the correlation of motivation on English language learning and self-perception on English for communication conducted with the 1st year Physical Education major students at the Faculty of Education, Institute of Physical Education, Lampang, with its correlation coefficient of 0.676 and its significant difference of 0.001, showed that there was the same effect on the correlation of motivation on English language learning and self-perception on English for communication, as compared to sig = .000, which was less found in α = (.001).
