Abstract:
A new and convenient method for the bromination of alcohols using PPh3 and
brominating agents is disclosed. This protocol could be applied for the preparation of 2-thiosubstituted
benzothiazoles in one-pot reaction. The substitution between benzothiazole-2-thiol
and alkyl bromides, generated in situ from alcohols and PPh3/PhSO2CBr3, proceeded
smoothly to furnish the corresponding benzothiazoles in moderate to high yields.
