Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to find the relationships between general motor ability and basketball ability of Udornthani Teachers College male students. The subjects in this study were 150 male lower certificate of education students at Udornthani Teachers College. The McCloys general motor ability test, used in finding general motor ability, consisted of tests of muscular strength (Chinning or dipping) and track and field events (50 - Metre dash, standing broad jump, running high jump, and basketball throw for distance). Weighted score transformations were used for chinning and dipping. The data were transformed to normalized T-scores, and a general motor ability score was computed by McCloys formula : General Motor Ability Score = .1022 (total track and field points) + .3928 (Chinning strength) Johnsons Basketball Ability Test consisted of field-goal speed test, basketball throw for accuracy, and dribble test whose scores were combined and transformed to normalized T-scores. These scores were then correlated with the General Motor Ability Scores. The results of this study indicated that the correlation coefficient between general motor ability and basketball ability of lower certificate of education male students of Udornthani Teachers College were significant at the level of .01. It can be said that students who had more general motor ability, had more basketball ability too.
