Abstract:
Phytochemical study of the hexane extract of the flowers of Cananga odorata var.
fruticosa led to the isolation of two known compounds; linolenic acid (1) and chromolaevane
dione (2). Their structures were determined using spectroscopic techniques. In addition, the
hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts were tested for DPPH free-radical scavenging
activity and total phenolic content. It was found that the methanol extract exhibited the
highest DPPH activity (96.47 ± 0.04%) and the highest total phenolic content (2101.812 ±
0.001 mg GAE/g crude extract).
