Abstract:
This study has examined the storytelling of a film called Inception through the portrayal of layers. Inception is an American Sci-Fi & action film with Christopher Nolan as its writer, producer, and director. The film is about the extraction of valuable information from the humans subconscious. The story is in line with Sigmund Freuds Psychoanalytic theory which argues that most of the human's behavior are the results of an unconscious mind which motivate people through dreams. According to Freud, there are three levels of the humans mind: conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. In order to alter humans behavior, it has to be performed in the deepest level of mind, the unconscious. With the basis of this notion, Christopher Nolan has applied it in the narration of Inception through the infiltration of the targets levels of the dream world to the deepest one in order to alter behaviors and thoughts of the target.
The author has been inspired to examine the film structure with the narration through overlayed layers of the dream world in each level of human's conscious using the design process based on the films story and present it as the photograph album viewable in 2D and 3D.
