Abstract:
The objectives of the study were to analyze the numbers of vocabulary found in three levels proposed by Nation (2001) and also compare the different vocabulary usage from each list in English writing of the third year students in vocational degree of Tak Technical College between high and low groups. The 103 participants were asked to write at least 100 words in the topic Whats your dream job? within 60 minutes. The data were collected and analyzed by VocabProfile software program. The software grouped words into four lists. Base List One consists of the 1,000 most frequently-used words. Base List Two includes next 1,000 words. Base List Three is the academic words contain 570 words. List Four is comprised of words which are not found in any three Base Lists. Each word lists were analyzed to define the statistically significant differences by using the Independent t-test. The results showed that both two groups usually used the vocabulary Base List One and Base List Three (Academic Word List) the least. There was no statistically differences between two groups. They used Base List one word more than Base list three word (Academic Word List). Moreover, the high group showed a statistically significant difference in the use of Base List three (3.46) (Academic Word List) more than from low group.
