Abstract:
Acoustic Emission (AE) Signal has been applied to monitor various machinery such as industrial fan, turbine, engine, compressor, etc. AE signal will not disturb from low frequency vibration below 1000 Hz which is the frequency range of machine operation. This study was to apply AE signal to monitor fault condition of ball bearing. The simulated conditions of this study were normal bearing, bearing with inner race defect, outer race defect, cage and ball defect, bearing defect with polishing grease grit 100, 280 and 400. It is found that AE signal could be clearly seen mechanical process in ball bearing such as the impact between ball and inner race mark etc. AE signal analysis using time domain technique e.g. standard deviation and kurtosis could be used to predict bearing defect trend especially, when severity defect of bearing was serious. The use of Fast Fourier Transform technique applied to the envelope of the AE signal could be used to determine bearing defect frequencies.
