Abstract:
This research proposes a new approach for overcoming the problems about enivironment. society and economics in landlill siting by finding the optimal site of sanitary landfill witliin Smut Songkhram province as a case study. The process of this study uses an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and geographic information system analysis (GTS) as a main tool including that both linear combination method and expert system are applied. The AHP is combincd with five processes or sub-goals and the GTS process is considered thc combination of environmental, social and economic factors as twelve, three and two items respectively. This GIS process uses overlay technique among thcse environmental. snclal and economic factors, Arc/View program for overlay mapping and linear combination method in calculating total score land suitability. In addition, that there are seventeen persons and three branches of expert persons is einploycd in an cxpert system process for giving the weight or important and score land suitability of each criterion. whicli is used in the linear coinbination method The optiinal area for landfill siting which has highest total score land suitability is approximately 2.330 x 10' square mcters or 2.330 x 10" hectares. Then the three areas, which have size more than land requirement ascandidate-sanitary landfill sites, are selected. The land price of each area is also brought into coilsideration for determi6hg the landfill site having the least land price. The finalresult is presented map of the optimal sanitary landfill site, which has sizes 6.931 x l0 square meters or 6.93 1 x 10 hectares.
