QDRx : an Intelligent Queue Management System Based on QR Code for Pharmaceutical Dispensing
Abstract:
Due to the fact that most hospitals, especially in Thailand, have to encounter a great number of patients using the service each day and have pharmaceutical dispensing as one of the most time consuming process on customers perspective; the inconvenient time the patients need to wait within the fixed service area has greatly affected on their dissatisfaction to the service. Therefore, this paper proposes a smart queue management system based on QR code in order to reduce or eliminate the unproductive waiting time patients need to waste on pharmaceutical dispensing process in the hospital. The queue management system for pharmaceutical dispensing is then developed as an android mobile application compatible with smartphones and can be subcategorized into two sections i.e. (1) Queue Dispensing Rx (QDRx), a queue function based on android operating system for receiving particular queues from patients, and vice versa, (2) java based queue generator for particular queue calling. Both two sections of the application properly support the IoT (Internet of Things) platform by the aid of MQTT broker associating with cloud computing. As a result, the patients are not required to receive queue information only through the screen in the service area but also from their own smartphones connecting to the internet in real time, which can certainly enhance their satisfying experience on the service with extra time to perform their other personal activities elsewhere while waiting for their own queues.
