Abstract: Stresses caused by emotions or environment such as anger and Lombard effect vary the speech patterns of speakers from their normal ones. This change causes errors in a speech recognition system and reduces its recognition performance. This thesis purposes a speech recognition method for multiple stress speeches. A feature extraction method appropriate for each stress is found and applied to extract speech features that will yicld a high recognition rate for the stress. Then, the extacted features are fed to a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) trained with a set of the specific stress speeches. The result from each HMM is a recognized whose value is between 0-1. The selected word is the word that has the similarity more than 0.5. It they have the lower or the same similarity the score is the winner. To find a suitable feature for each stress, recognition systems are trained with different feature extraction methods such as LPC, MFCC and LPCEP. The method that gives the highest recognition rate for the stress is chosen to be its feature extraction method.
