Abstract:
The objective of this study was to estimate value of time (VOT) of freight movement by using the binary logit model, decision route choices models. The generated freight data fiom industrial estates in Ayutthaya were collected by using the State Preference (SP) technique for a case study. Four attributes, transport cost, transport time, reliability and damage of freight, were fixed to construct the models. Consequently VOTs were estimated from utility functions of eachlogit model. The models were formulated to five groups: (1) general semi-finished goods, (2) electronic semi-finished goods, (3) finished goods, (4) electronic goods, and (5) freight services company. The estimated VOTs were 344, 209, 295, 305 and 505 baht per hour for general semi-finished goods, electronic semi-finished goods, finished goods, electronic goods and fieightservices company, respectively. These values can be used to identify as benefits of travel time saving of fieight transport. It was observed that the most significant factor influencing the route choice decision was reliability, following by damage of freight, transport cost and transport time, respectively. Furthermore, from the survey data it was also found that shippers and carriers had significantly considered the travel time saving in the senses that it could increase a number of trips, reduce transport cost and increase the reliability of freight transport.
